I have a new post at the collaborative Al-Wasat blog on Somalia's Harakat al-Shabab al-Mujahideen (Movement of the Warrior-Youth; Al-Shabaab). It is the fourth post in a continuing series of "In Pictures" posts sourced solely from insurgent media.

IN PICTURES: Rada (Radda), Yemen

Five years ago when I visited the Yemeni town of Rada south of the capital city of San'a, I didn't expect it to ever make the Western press. However, today I read that scores of armed men allegedly affiliated with Al-Qa'ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) have taken over the town, raising their banner over the citadel that dominates the town's skyline. Below are some photographs of the town that I took in August 2007. The town was previously most well known for its beautifully restored medieval religious school madrasa, the Amiriyyah.
